  1. Upcoming Club Meetings:
    • Nov 12: Business meeting at 7:00 pm at Jefferson Armouries, followed by a presentation from Chuck Harvey and Steve Miller on their fall fishing adventures. ​
    • Nov 13 & 27: Fly tying sessions via Zoom at 7:30 pm with Northern Lights Fly Fishers. ​
  2. Special Event:
    • Feb 8, 2025: George Daniel will hold a one-day seminar at Grant McEwan. Cost: ~$60.
  3. ETFC News:
    • Aerators installed for winter. ​
    • No response from Spring Lake Village Council regarding aeration costs. ​
    • ACA discontinued aeration at Spring Lake due to lack of public access. ​
  4. Alberta Wildlife Federation (AWF) News:
    • Successful Yellow Perch transfer from Manatokan Lake to Frenchman Lake. ​
    • Plans for additional stocking at Cache and Upper Mann lakes. ​
    • New regulations and indigenous consultations. ​
    • Cormorant egg oiling program to protect trout stock. ​
    • Kathy Hendren is the new contact replacing Ryder. ​
    • Fish Habitat Restoration Project updates. ​
  5. Fish and Fishing:
    • Information on fish behavior in winter and the impact of fishing on their energy reserves. ​
    • Ice fishing tips, including auger maintenance, safety, and effective jigging techniques. ​
  6. Reminder:
    • Next newsletter due on or before Dec 1, 2024. ​ Contributions and suggestions are welcome.

UPCOMING CLUB MEETINGS:

  • Nov 12, 7:00pm: Business meeting followed by a presentation on fall fishing adventures at Jefferson Armories. Directions provided due to LRT construction. ​
  • Fly Tying Sessions: Bi-weekly Zoom sessions hosted by Northern Lights Chapter of Trout Unlimited Canada. ​

ETFC NEWS:

  • Property Gate Code Change: New code effective October 1st. ​ Contact Jacqueline if not received. ​
  • Lake Aeration: Installation on Oct 7. ​ Future funding issues discussed in a letter to the Village mayor.
  • Spring Lake Fall Fair: Positive community engagement reported. ​
  • Property Clean Up: Volunteers needed for building and area maintenance. ​
  • Public Access to Spring Lake: Clarification needed on free fishing access points. ​

FISH and FISHING:

  • Prussian Carp: Invasive species caught in Spring Lake. ​ Instructions on how to cook them provided. ​
  • Spring Lake Stocking: 5,000 rainbow trout added. ​
  • Fly of the Month: October Caddis. ​ Tips for using this fly provided.

MEMBER REPORTS:

  • Fishing Conditions: Updates on various lakes including Muir, Hasse, Spring, Star, and Dolberg Lakes. ​

MISCELLANEOUS:

  • Boat Borrowing: Ken Bodden has left paddles and a life jacket with a club canoe. ​
