Club News:

  • Aeration systems are functioning well, with recent installations of fencing and signage. ​
  • Spring Lake Council responded to a letter regarding power costs for aeration. ​
  • Fishing reports indicate varying success at different lakes.
  • Membership renewals for 2025 are due. ​
  • Tips on walleye fishing for different seasons. ​
  • Fly of the Month: Rolled Muddler Minnow. ​
  • Fly line care recommendations from RIO’s R&D department. ​
  • Positive developments in combating Whirling Disease in rainbow trout. ​

Fisheries Recommendation 2025-FR-1:

  • Proposal to reduce the daily catch limit at Spring Lake from five to two trout to maintain quality fishing experiences and manage angler pressure. ​

Upcoming Events:

  • 2025 Meetings: AGM on January 14th at 7:00 pm, then every second Tuesday through May. ​
  • George Daniel Seminar: February 8, 2025, at MacEwan University. ​ Early bird tickets are $60. ​
  • Boat and Sportsmen’s Show: March 20-23, volunteers needed. ​
  • Aerators: Installation of fencing and signage on December 9th and 10th, volunteers needed. ​
  • Dock Repairs: To be assessed and repaired in spring 2025. ​
  • Fall Property Clean-Up: Not needed this year. ​

Membership:

  • Membership expires on December 31st. ​ Renewal includes Alberta Wildlife Federation membership and insurance coverage. ​

Fish and Fishing:

  • Spring Lake stocking: Increased trout stocking in 2024. ​
  • Christmas Sale: Discounts on fishing gear until December 24th. ​
  • Ice Fishing Tips: Using bead head nymphs and maintaining ice augers.

Trout University:

  • Winter Fishing Clothing: Recommendations for jackets, vests, waders, base layers, hats, heated gear, and cleated boots. ​
  • Fishing Trip Suggestion: Chester Lake in Kananaskis Country, open July 1 to October 31.
